Empowering Students - I’m Possible Dream Keynote

We are each born with a unique purpose, dream, and sphere of excellence that has the power to transform our lives and our communities, if we dare name, face, and work past those “impossibilities”. This speech is inspired by Muhammad Ali’s example that “Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small [people] who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it.” and what it means to be living in the legacy of
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream.

In this speech, Hilda shares the obstacles and barriers she faced as a first-generation, Black, Latina, low-income student and the ways she redefined the “impossible” by pursuing her dream of attending Harvard University, graduating with high honors, and returning home to build community equity. She inspires students to dream and work hard by sharing how her resourcefulness, tenacity, and upbringing helped her identify, navigate, and excel in life-changing opportunities.

“Thank you for coming to our school and speaking to our students. You are a great role model; showing students that it is possible to overcome any obstacle and make a difference in their lives and their community. You have added so much value to everyone here at the school, and we are extremely grateful for your generous contributions and commitment. Thank you for inspiring us all!”

We thoroughly enjoyed Ms. Jordan’s speech at our Black History Month Ceremony. She has an amazing story to share and inspire our students. She is an asset to our local community and a living example of a success story and role model for the next generation. I also enjoyed our conversation and her insightful reflections about identity after the ceremony.
